Public Art Opening and Performance: Capucine Bourcart at Thomas Jefferson Park
Join NYC Parks for the opening of LINOUQ by Capucine Bourcart.

Join NYC Parks for the opening of the public artwork LINOUQ by Capucine Bourcart. From 2008 to 2012, Capucine Bourcart walked every street in Manhattan, from State Street to 220th Street, taking photographic details of walls along her route. This collection of photographs will be used to create a photo-assemblage made of 4,170 metal squares that will hang from a chain link fence in a design inspired by those of Native Americans, the island’s first inhabitants.

The opening will feature a storytelling performance by Delwin Fiddler, Jr. of Lakota Performing Arts Program, with Native American flute, grass dance, and double beat.

This exhibition is made possible by the Art in the Parks: UNIQLO Park Expressions Grant, which supports the creation of artworks by New York City-based emerging artists at 10 parks that are highly visible, but underserved by cultural programming. The UNIQLO grant program will transform these locations into engaging art destinations with a series of rotating exhibitions and community events through 2019.

Public Art Opening: Harumi Ori in Thomas Jefferson Park
Harumi Ori folds and sews orange industrial mesh, a sacred color in Japan, to create three dimensional snapshots. Meet the artist and celebrate this public art installation!
Enter the park from First Avenue just north of the Recreation Center and continue straight towards the East River. The installation is on the baseball field fence

Harumi Ori folds and sews orange industrial mesh, a sacred color in Japan, to create three dimensional snapshots. Using photographs she took of parkgoers as inspiration, she has created a vibrant 30 foot portrait of the park out of mesh, which highlights the surrounding community. Meet the artist and celebrate this public art installation!

This exhibition was made possible by the Art in the Parks: UNIQLO Park Expressions Grant.

Introduced in September 2016, the Art in the Parks: UNIQLO Park Expressions Grant builds on Parks’ equity initiatives by bringing regular public art exhibits to parks that have historically lacked cultural programming. The $200,000 grant has been issued to a total of 20 artists over the course of two consecutive years, with $100,000 distributed to 10 artists in 2017, and $100,000 issued to another 10 artists this year. Each chosen artist receives $10,000 to execute their pieces. The first round of winning artists installed their pieces in June 2017, and each was on display for one year

See one of Woody Allen’s best films, Annie Hall. This classic romantic comedy follows the up and down relationship of two mismatched New Yorkers. Hailed as Allen’s most mature and personal film, Annie Hall beat out Star Wars for Best Picture and also won Oscars for Allen as director and writer and for Keaton as Best Actress; audiences enthusiastically responded to Allen’s take on contemporary love and turned Keaton’s rumpled menswear into a fashion trend. Rated PG.
