This week in New York City, from August 11-18, 2025, there are a number of ongoing events and attractions to enjoy, including seasonal outdoor activities, special festivals, and cultural offerings across the boroughs.
Citywide Events
NYC Restaurant Week: This popular event runs until August 17th, offering specially priced prix-fixe menus at hundreds of participating restaurants across the five boroughs. This is a great opportunity to dine at some of the city’s top establishments at a lower cost.
NYC Public Outdoor Pools & Beaches: With the summer heat, the city’s public outdoor pools and beaches are open for the season. Lifeguards are on duty daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., making it a great time for a refreshing dip.
Summer Streets: Part of this car-free initiative is happening on Saturday, August 16th. This event closes miles of streets to vehicles, allowing people to walk, bike, and participate in various activities like zip-lining and free yoga.
Arts and Culture
Free Shakespeare in the Park: The Public Theater’s free production of Twelfth Night continues at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. It features a star-studded cast and is a classic NYC summer tradition.
Ballet Festival: Jerome Robbins: The Joyce Theater in Chelsea is hosting a ballet festival celebrating the work of choreographer Jerome Robbins. The performances run through August 17th.
Museums and Exhibits: Many museums are offering free or discounted admission on certain days. Look for free days at places like the Poster House on Fridays or check out ongoing exhibits like the (Dis)Connective Time art exhibition at the Czech Center New York or The Monkey King in Chinatown at Pearl River Mart.
Music and Entertainment
Rise Up NYC Concert Series: This concert series has various free shows throughout the week in different boroughs. On Saturday, August 16th, there will be a show at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens featuring artists like Wayne Wonder and Luciano.
Coney Island Fireworks: Enjoy a free fireworks display on the Coney Island boardwalk every Friday night throughout the summer, weather permitting. The show starts around 9:45 p.m.
Hudson Yards Summer Concerts: On Wednesday, August 13th, Hudson Yards is hosting a free summer concert with Grace VanderWaal.
Markets and Other Attractions
Farmers Markets: There are several farmers markets operating in various neighborhoods throughout the week, including the Down to Earth Park Slope Farmers Market in Brooklyn on August 12th and the Ft Washington Greenmarket in Manhattan.
FAD Market: This curated pop-up marketplace featuring fashion, art, and design will be held on Governors Island on August 16th and 17th.
US Open Fan Week: While the main tournament starts later, Fan Week kicks off on Monday, August 18th. This provides free grounds admission to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, allowing fans to watch qualifying matches and player practices.
