Enjoy an afternoon of Koto and Shakukachi music that will dazzle your senses with timeless Japanese music. The concert will celebrate the release of a new music CD by Japanese composer Rando Fukuda and will also include traditional as well as modern compositions.

Join us on a low-impact bicycle tour of some of the great trees in Riverdale and surroundings with professional tree photographer Benjamin Swett, author of New York City of Trees. Organized by Wave Hill’s Nature and Art Programs Manager Gisela Insuaste and Boogie Down Rides, a Bronx-based bicycling and art project, this nature-based bicycle tour will start off-site at the southeast corner of Isham Park and end at Wave Hill, exploring some of the trees and their stories highlighted in the book.

Bruce’s Garden honors the memory of Bruce Albert Reynolds (1960-2001), a Port Authority Police Officer who sacrificed his life to save others on September 11th. Maintained entirely by community volunteers, the Garden provides a rare oasis in upper Manhattan for the comfort and pleasure of the public.
UP Theater Company offers professional productions of new and challenging works of theater for our Northern Manhattan neighborhoods.

Experience the thunderous rhythms of the ancestral Japanese Taiko drums and the magical sounds of the bamboo flutes. Hear and feel the ancestral Taiko drums give thunderous voice to traditional and new compositions.Roughly translated, Taiko means big drums-and that’s exactly what Taikoza brings. Big drums, powerful rhythms, and electrifying, room-thumping energy. This exciting group draws from Japan’s rich tradition of music and performance to create a highly visual performance. With colorful traditional costumes and dynamic motion, Taikoza’s shows are immensely popular with audiences of all ages. Drawing from Japan’s rich tradition of music and performance, Taikoza has created a new sound using a variety of traditional instruments. In addition to drums of assorted sizes, Taikoza incorporates the shakuhachi and the fue (both bamboo flutes) and colorful dances. Led by Internationally known Shakuhachi and Taiko Master Marco Lienhard.
The group has toured internationally and has appeared on ESPN, NBC, History Channel, Swiss TV, Russian National TV and many other programs around the world. Taikoza’s music is featured on Nintendo’s wii game: Red Steel 1 and 2.
There will be street performers and many other activities for kids!
The Rain date will be on Sunday, June 15th at 6:00pm.

The East Winds Ensemble will present a concert of timeless Japanese music, in a very special setting. The concert will feature new compositions and traditional pieces.

The East Winds Ensemble is back for a concert in the unique setting of the community garden Bruce’s Garden in Inwood. This event is presented by Isham Park Restoration Program 1970, Inc. and East Winds, Inc.
Two amazing masters of Japanese music will be featured in this concert: Marco Lienhard on Shakuhachi and Masayo Ishigure on the Koto. A concert of timeless Japanese music in a very special setting, the concert will feature new compositions and traditional pieces as well as songs composed for East Winds Ensemble.

Join us on a low-impact bicycle tour of some of the great trees in Riverdale and surroundings with professional tree photographer Benjamin Swett, author of New York City of Trees. Organized by Wave Hill’s Nature and Art Programs Manager Gisela Insuaste and Boogie Down Rides, a Bronx-based bicycling and art project, this nature-based bicycle tour will start off-site and end at Wave Hill, exploring some of the trees and their stories highlighted in the book.
Ride starts in Northern Manhattan at the southeast corner of Isham Park and ends at Wave Hill. This event is free, but registration is required. You can register online below, by calling or at the Perkins Visitor Center. Registrants may visit Wave Hill free of admission after the ride.
