CityParks PuppetMobile Presents: LITTLE RED’S HOOD
CityParks PuppetMobile Presents LITTLE RED’S HOOD

Little Red’s Hood is a fresh retelling of the classic “Little Red Riding Hood” tale updated with a modern sensibility that will appeal to kids. The production features a dozen, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre.

Like many of today’s children, Little Red is a smart, young city slicker who is too focused on her smartphone to notice her surroundings. Wulfric is a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth. When Little Red travels from New York City to the country to deliver some cupcakes to her Grandma, she encounters a colorful cast of characters as Wulfric the Wolf tries to head her off at the pass.

Little Red’s Hood is directed by Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre’s Artistic Director Bruce Cannon and written by Liam Hurley.

The CityParks PuppetMobile is the oldest continually operating company of its kind in the country, which presents free performances and puppet-making workshops in neighborhood parks, recreation centers and schools throughout New York City.

Southern Queens GospelFest: Byron Cage / Deon Kipping / Latice Crawford / Michael Pugh / Lenny Smith / The Greater Allen Cathedral Choir
Join more than 2,000 attendees at Baisley Pond Park for performances by top gospel singers, including Byron Cage, Latice Crawford, Michael Pugh, and the Allen AME Choir.

Join more than 2,000 attendees at Baisley Pond Park for performances by top gospel singers, including Byron Cage, Latice Crawford, Michael Pugh, and the Allen AME Choir.

If there’s a songsmith who understands heartache and pain, it’s Byron Cage, a man who has repeatedly touched gospel music heaven, only to be reminded time and again that the road to life’s mountaintops is often spent in the valley of the shadow. Cage knows the struggle well and his fourth CD, Faithful to Believe is a joyous testament of praise after a season of trials — a soul-searching period where he took stock of his ministry, his music, and his personal relationships.

Deon Kipping is an established, prolific, and inspirational songwriter/producer, whose talents have spawned him to Gold and Platinum success. His works to date include the smash single “Incredible God” and “Praise Him In Advance.” His latest work entitled. I Just Want to Hear You is a collection that will cause you to relate to his life’s challenges, plateaus, and triumphs.

Latice Crawford got her start singing in her cousin’s choir, The New York landscape, where she often times gathered inspiration, allowed her to explore her creative capacities – writing, designing fashion and perfecting her signature sound. Judges of BET’s hit series, Sunday Best felt the same exact way. The spirited siren wowed the judges week after week with her gifts, successfully securing the number three spot in the series’ final round during its second season run.

Michael Pugh is best know from his participation as a contestant on the fourth season of BET’s Sunday Best gospel singing competition. Since then he has workd with the famed Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral on their hit single “Greater.”

In 1974, Lenny Smith penned “Our God Reigns”. Shortly after, it was being sung in thousands of churches across the globe. It’s now 2013, and Smith has released Who Was And Is And Is To Come. A crowning achievement in a career spanning almost six decades and encompassing hundreds of songs, the record is a gospel album of simple but certain declarations about the primacy of Maker over everything else.

The Greater Allen Cathedral of New York is an African Methodist Episcopal church located in Jamaica, Queens, New York. The congregation currently has over 23,000 members, making it one of the largest churches in the United States. The choir has released Reverend Floyd Flake Presents the Worship Experience, which offers an outstanding collection of songs recorded by The Greater Allen Cathedral. The album’s first single is “Greater” featuring Michael Pugh.

NYC Parks hosts this free festival to increase our programming in Southern Queens, and treat parkgoers to an afternoon of soulful sounds. This event is sponsored by NYC Parks, the City Parks Foundation, Council Member Ruben Wills, Globestar Media, Queens College and WLIB. Kid-friendly activities will also be available, including arts & crafts, face painting, and an inflatable bounce house.
