Learn To Ride for Kids
Learn how to ride a bike with our trained staff! Participants must bring their own bike and helmet.
NYC Parks and Bike New York are proud to present Learn to Ride classes. In these free classes, we’ll teach children the fundamentals of bicycling, preparing them for years of safe and confident riding.
This class teaches a safe, easy, effective way to learn to ride. Using this “balance first” method, parents help get their children rolling while the child does most of the work. Participants learn the basics of balancing, starting, stopping, and steering a bike. Most people learn to ride their bike while taking the class, but even if they don’t, they will leave with an easy, hands-free, crash-free, and low-stress way to learn to ride.
Participants must bring their own bike and helmet. To register, please visit the Bike New York webpage.

World Music Performance and Conversation on Immigrants, Music, and Cultural Hybridity
Join artists-in-residence Art Parley for a performance and conversation on immigrants, music and cultural hybridity.
Located in the plaza in front of the Seward Park Library
Join artists-in-residence Art Parley for a performance and conversation on immigrants, music and cultural hybridity. The violinist and composer, Sita Chay, and her all immigrant band will take audiences on a musical and visual journey, depicting the convergence of different cultures united in solidarity. Their performance and conversation will examine how string and percussion instruments influence the music of various musical traditions and how new sounds are created as people travel from one country to another, while trying to escape oppression.
This program is part of Round Robin, which started as a free trilingual newspaper in Chinese, English, and Spanish for the communities in Chinatown, LES and Two Bridges. This summer, the Round Robin newspaper has come to life in the form of a collaborative forum for self-empowered leadership, cross cultural solidarity, and language access.
Art Parly invites all immigrants and local residents to participate in this forum through in-person summer workshops to create a network of communication channels and platform involving creative forms of expression in Chinatown, LES and Two Bridges neighborhoods.

Based on Donald Davis and Owen Davis’ stage-adaptation of Pearl S. Buck’s sprawling novel, Sidney Franklin’s The Good Earth is the story of a Chinese farming couple whose lives are torn apart by poverty, greed, and nature. Paul Muni stars as Wang Lung a hardworking, but poor, farmer who weds freed-slave O-Lan (Luise Rainer). SummerStage Kids Presents: Vered and the Babes
It’s not hard to understand why songstress Vered is adored by NY parents.
It’s not hard to understand why songstress Vered is adored by NY parents. Her voice is lush, her songs funny and poignant, and her upbeat melodies and playful harmonies are reminiscent of a doo-wop band. Her album, Good Morning My Love, was a Gold Award Winner from both the Parents’ Choice Foundation and from National Parenting Publications and was named by Laurie Berkner a 2012 favorite (USA Today). Parents often say that Vered’s music is like a soundtrack to life with their little ones, adding melody and bounce to the ups and downs, joyful interactions, and daily routines. Her band, Vered and the Babes, bring a variety of instruments including pots and pans, french-horn and trumpet, and always have the kids and parents jumping and singing along. “With warmth enough to melt the polar ice cap, the love, understanding, and humor emerge…circumspect, insightful, and filled with joy” (Parents’ Choice Foundation.)

Please join us for a discussion of local cultural landmarks and ongoing urban transformations in the Lower East Side/Chinatown neighborhood in collaboration with the public artwork Constellation by Cheryl Wing-Zi Wong.
Constellation is an architectural sculpture, performance, and panel series that activates the underused plaza in Seward Park as a transformative community public space. The site-specific sculptural pavilion is composed of interlocked wooden modules that will be re-arranged and transformed seasonally in three different configurations over the course of the exhibition. Constellation will be on view through June 19, 2018.
This exhibition and event are made possible by the Art in the Parks: UNIQLO Park Expressions Grant, which supports the creation of artworks by New York City-based emerging artists at 10 parks that are highly visible, but underserved by cultural programming. Karla and James Murray’s wood-framed sculpture consists of near life-size photographs of four mom-and-pop neighborhood stores of the Lower East Side, which are no longer in business and have disappeared from the streetscape. Images of a bodega, a coffee shop/luncheonette, a vintage store, and a newsstand recognize the unique and irreplaceable contribution made to New York by small, often family-owned businesses.
