Join the Jamaica Bay Greenway Coalition on the first South Brooklyn Bike & Hike, a 5-mile bike ride and a 1.6-mile hike on the newly restored Penn Park guided by the NYCDEP.

Join the Jamaica Bay Greenway Coalition on the first South Brooklyn Bike & Hike, a five-mile bike ride and a 1.6-mile hike on the newly restored Penn Park guided by the NYCDEP and in cooperation with the Friends of Penn & Fountain Parks. The tour will highlight the greenway as the best access to existing and potential parks in South Brooklyn.
Youth 14 years and older are welcome to participate, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Space is limited to 25 people. This event is free, but registration is required.
Tour Details
Ride departs from Canarsie Park at Seaview Avenue and N. Paerdegat Street. Three-mile ride through park and along Jamaica Bay Greenway to Brooklyn Sports Club. 20-minute reststop to see a short presentation, refill water, and use the restroom (there are no restrooms available thereafter). 1.6-mile hike around the potential Penn Ave park guided by NYCDEP. two-mile return ride to Canarsie Beach Park.
Participants should be in good health and prepared to complete the entire tour.

All activities in this six-week fitness program take place once or twice a week at each location through October 31st. Participants are encouraged to maintain regular attendance to maximize health benefits.
CityParks Seniors Fitness has served over 5,000 participants since it began in 2006 and aims to keep neighborhood parks a great place for community activity. The program encourages New Yorkers to maximize the health benefits of staying active at all ages. Even in moderate amounts, exercise can help participants feel better, maintain or lose weight, reduce risk of heart disease and diabetes, and minimize the symptoms of arthritis.
For more information about City Parks Foundation’s free Seniors Fitness programs, please call the Sports Department at (718) 760-6999. All equipment and instruction is provided free of charge. Sessions are one or two hours, once or twice a week.

This season, CityParks Seniors Fitness returns for six weeks to Marine Park in Southeast Brooklyn and South Oxford Park in Fort Greene. All activities will take place twice a week for one hour at each park through November 1, 2013. Participants are encouraged to maintain regular attendance to maximize health benefits. All equipment and instruction is provided free of charge.
CityParks Seniors Fitness has served over 5,000 participants since it began in 2006 and aims to keep neighborhood parks a great place for community activity. The program encourages New Yorkers to maximize the health benefits of staying active at every age. Even in moderate amounts, exercise can help participants feel better, maintain or lose weight, reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes, and minimize the symptoms of arthritis.
