Join us for a DIY print and stamp workshop with the Art Students League’s Sonomi Kobayashi.

Join us for a DIY print and stamp workshop with the Art Students League’s Sonomi Kobayashi. Using overlooked, everyday objects such as wine corks, paper clips, buttons, rubber bands, foot care cushions (bunion and corn cushions), and bottle caps you will create print blocks and stamps to make multilayered prints and patterns that can be used to enhance journal covers, stationery, fabrics, accessories, and anything else you can think of.

Sonomi Kobayashi is a New York based artist, from Japan. She studied painting, sculpture and printmaking at the Art Students League of New York from which she received a studio certificate in painting. She now works out of her studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York and exhibits frequently in the United States, Japan, and Europe. She received the Will Barnet Grant in Printmaking in 2013, and has done residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, VT, Vytlacil Campas, Sparkill, NY, and Cat’Art Contemporary Art Centre, Sainte Colombe, France. Her work expresses the relationships between humanity, nature, earth and the universe. Viewers often find universality in her paintings which depict the shapes and symbols found in nature.

Arts, Culture & Fun: The Public Theater presents Romeo and Juliet
This spring, the Public Theater’s Mobile Unit will tour Shakespeare’s timeless tale of Romeo and Juliet to communities across New York City, including many NYC Parks locations.

This spring, the Public Theater’s Mobile Unit will tour Shakespeare’s timeless tale of Romeo and Juliet to communities across New York City, including many NYC Parks locations. In some of the most romantic language ever written for the stage, young Romeo and Juliet become fortune’s fools when the ancient grudge between their families forces them to sacrifice all for the chance to be together. Obie Award winner Lear de Bessonet directs the classic tale of star-crossed lovers caught between the world outside the bedroom window and passion as boundless as the sea.

The Public Theater’s mission to make theater accessible to all, as exemplified by free Shakespeare in the Park, is expanded upon by the Mobile Unit, which strengthens community engagement with the arts by bringing free, world-class productions of Shakespeare to recreation centers, correctional facilities, homeless shelters, social advocacy organizations, and other places of community gathering in all five boroughs.
