Take a ride on the Park’s beautiful 101 year-old carousel.

Located in the Park’s “Children’s Corner,” the Carousel features 51 magnificently carved horses, a lion, a giraffe, a deer, and two dragon-pulled chariots. Carved in 1912 by Charles Carmel, one of the foremost carousel designers of the time, and restored by the Prospect Park Alliance in 1990, the Carousel promises that classic summertime amusement will be available for generations of fun. In addition, the Prospect Park Carousel is one of the few in the world that is wheelchair accessible.

On this Nature Exploration Hike we will discover plants which have been used in traditional medicine and the amazing properties they possess.

Hiking is the ultimate way to enjoy the outdoors and a fun way to reduce stress. Our Urban Park Ranger hiking guides will introduce you to the hidden gems of New York CIty and places often off-limits to the general public. On this Nature Exploration Hike we will discover plants which have been used in traditional medicine and the amazing properties they possess. Light hikes are leisurely stroll on mostly paved paths. For all hiking programs we recommend wearing comfortable shoes or boots, and packing water and a light snack.

In this updated adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, Tony and Maria fall in love in 1950s New York. Inspired by the vibrant score and soundtrack, Skyline Salsa Band will get the audience on their feet with salsa numbers before the screening. Neighborhood partners will also provide onsite activities.

On Wednesday, August 8, join us for a free, family-friendly screening of Space Jam (1996). (7pm-11pm)

The pioneering saxophonist and composer Ornette Coleman “expanded the jazz idiom more than anyone except perhaps Louis Armstrong,” (All About Jazz) but his influence reaches far beyond jazz. His son Denardo Coleman, an outstanding drummer who debuted on record with his father at the age of 10, convenes a deep and surprising lineup of special guests for a long-overdue exploration and celebration of Ornette’s music and spirit, with his own band at the core.

    An Alliance naturalist will lead children and families to areas near the Audubon Center, where you can learn about the nature that is all around us and participate in a citizen science project.

  • Animal Encounter, 4 pm

    Curious as to how “Snappy” the turtle got her name? Want to watch the snake gobble up a mouse? Join Alliance naturalists to meet the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. Learn what it takes to care for these amazing creatures and assist in an actual feeding.

Spring Sprouts, 2–4 pm
Lefferts Historic House, $3 suggested donation

It’s time for spring planting! Join the Alliance at Lefferts Historic House where you can make a small pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil and plant an herb seed to take home.

Carousel Rides, 12-5 pm
Children’s Corner, $2 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets, free with Alliance Family Plus membership

Celebrate the start of spring with a first ride of the year on the Park’s beloved 1912 carousel. Join the Alliance at the $125 level and your family (up to 4 people) will receive unlimited rides on the Carousel for a full year!
