Isca Greenfield-Sanders: Playground Parachutes Public Art Exhibit Opening
This event celebrates the opening of “Playground Parachutes,” a new public art installation by artist Isca Greenfield-Sanders.
Meet at the basketball courts at corner of Thompson Street and Spring Street.
Green Below 14 and SmartSpaces present Isca Greenfield-Sanders: Playground Parachutes, in partnership with the Children’s Museum of the Arts (“CMA”) and NYC Parks, on view until November 1, 2016. This opening celebration will include remarks at 11:00 a.m. and an opportunity to meet the artist.
Playground Parachutes is an installation of four large-scale murals by the celebrated New York-based artist Isca Greenfield-Sanders, made in collaboration with over 200 children at CMA. For this community-based, public art project, the artist chose a single image from her 2008 parachute series. She gridded the image into 72 square tiles and printed them in the four basic CMYK colors – blue, pink, yellow, and key (black) – referring to the importance of the printed image in her work. The tiles were then enhanced with colored pencils by young artists at CMA who explored mark making techniques with CMA Teaching Artists. The colored pieces were returned to the artist, who reassembled the composition.

A team of high-class thieves avenge their mentor’s death — with the help of his own daughter — in this big-budget remake of the 1969 British caper classic. The Italian Job stars Mark Wahlberg as Charlie, the mastermind of a daring Venice heist overseen by John (Donald Sutherland), a lifelong criminal who plans to retire from the fold with the earnings from his most recent take. They are ruthlessly double-crossed by one of their own, the taciturn, calculating Steve Frezelli (Edward Norton). Time passes and each member of the group finds himself pursuing other opportunities in the States, until Charlie rallies them together for a revenge-motivated scheme designed to bilk Steve of all his misbegotten earnings.
