Motown Revue / Felix Hernandez’s Rhythm Revue
SummerStage presents a night dedicated to Motown’s most influential musicians and some of the greatest hits of the Motown decades.
“
Originating in the “Motor Town” of Detroit, Michigan, The Motown Record Corporation fused the style of Soul music with a definitive Pop influence which brought its individual style to the top of the charts in the 1960s and 1970s. The genre is known for its energy and its bounce, and played an important role in racial integration by becoming a crossover success. Popular Motown artists which gave the genre its international popularity include The Temptations, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, The Jackson 5, and the Funk Brothers.
SummerStage presents a night dedicated to Motown’s most influential musicians and some of the greatest hits of the Motown decades.
Felix Hernandez is in the business of remembering the good ol’ days. Hernandez’s wildly popular radio show, Rhythm Revue, takes on a life of its own at New York’s Roseland, where three thousand disciples regularly come to hear Fernandez spin the sounds of the past and boogie down. Felix Hernandez will rock the crowd once again at SummerStage again with his mix of soul, Motown, funk, salsa and disco dance classics. Bring your dancing shoes.

Help care for young street trees during MulchFest! The Stewardship Team is looking for volunteers to help by spreading mulch that is generated during MulchFest around young trees. The mulch will help to insulate the young trees from the cold winter weather, retain moisture, and provide a decorative addition to neighborhoods around the city. You can also pick up bags of mulch to take home with you and use on the trees on your street!

All participants will care for trees using small gardening tools and watering buckets. Please dress for light gardening work, wear close-toed shoes, and bring a refillable water bottle. All MillionTreesNYC events are rain or shine.
Registration is required.

The Persuasions, an A Capella group which humbly started out on the street corners of Brooklyn, proudly boast their forty plus years together with only its founding members. Often referred to the undisputed “Kings of A Capella,” this global phenomenon has a heavy influence of Gospel, Soul, with a healthy dose of Pop and has released 26 albums since their beginning in 1962. The group has infused classic songs with their own powerful style, often referred to as “Persuasion-izing it,” to create a new musical experience. Dedicated and new fans alike are inspiration for the members to keep performing for over half a century.

Public Art Opening: Fitzhugh Karol in Tappen Park
Eyes’ intersecting steel shapes are derived from the simple silhouettes of hillsides and stairs, and will frame the park’s historic Village Hall.
Enter at Water Street and Bay Street
Join NYC Parks and artist Fitzhugh Karol for the opening of his public artwork Eyes in Faber Park. Eyes‘ intersecting steel shapes are derived from the simple silhouettes of hillsides and stairs, and will frame the park’s historic Village Hall. The integrated play feature will provide a chance to engage with the work in a way that most sculptures do not allow, appealing to the community in a fundamental way.
This exhibition is made possible by the Art in the Parks: UNIQLO Park Expressions Grant, which supports the creation of artworks by New York City-based emerging artists at 10 parks that are highly visible, but underserved by cultural programming. The UNIQLO grant program will transform these locations into engaging art destinations with a series of rotating exhibitions and community events through 2019.

Join artist DB Lampman to celebrate the installation of her exhibition The Dance, on view in Tappen Park, Staten Island.
The Dance consists of five figures floating 15 feet above the ground. The figures, formed with steel and wrapped in nylon, hold hands and dance whimsically within a rectangular steel structure. At night the figures light up and cast a glow around the neighboring trees. The Dance is inspired by Henri Matisse’s painting by the same name. Similar interlocked figures can be found throughout art history, including Mayan art, African tribal sculptures, and ancient Mesopotamia, among others, to symbolize family, community, and spiritual or universal connectivity. Lampman uses this symbol for the coming together of the Staten Island community.
