Historic New York: Riverdale
Discover how the Ice-age glaciers, Native Americans, Dutch traders, British Redcoats, and the Underground Railroad have all left their mark on New York City.

Ice-age glaciers, Native Americans, Dutch traders, British Redcoats, and the Underground Railroad have all left their mark on New York City. Their stories can be found in the names of our streets, our architecture, and our parks. Urban Park Rangers specialize in interpretation of historic turning points, both natural and man-made, in our city’s long history.

Historic New York programs highlight the history of selected neighborhoods or parks.

MillionTreesNYC Stewardship Day at Raoul Wallenberg Forest
This fall’s MillionTreesNYC forest restoration day will focus on stewardship and caring for young forests that have already been planted.

This fall’s MillionTreesNYC forest restoration day will focus on stewardship and caring for young forests that have already been planted. In this endeavor, MillionTreesNYC and NYC Parks are joined by the Natural Areas Conservancy, a non-profit organization that was formed to restore and preserve the natural areas of New York City, including forests and wetlands, to enhance the lives of all New Yorkers.

Since 2007, we have come a long way towards reaching our goal of planting one million trees, and we are confident that we will get there. We ask you now to continue the work that we’ve done together and to join us in meeting the next challenge to ensure a sustainable city.

Learn about the background and site preparation work at each park below!

Volunteer forest restoration stewardship activities will include:

  • Removing invasive weeds
  • Picking up litter
  • Spreading mulch
  • Planting new forest trees

Register online. Registration is required.
