Summer on the Hudson Amplified Sundays Presents River Whyless
Enjoy vibrantly danceable live music accompanied by spectacular sunsets over the Hudson River!

Enjoy vibrantly danceable live music accompanied by spectacular sunsets over the Hudson River!

River Whyless puts a hauntingly sweet spin on traditional foundations with a sound full of lush harmonies, wide sweeping arrangements driven by dark percussion, and metaphors built of firewood and sap.

Their recent EP, the bands first release since their 2012 debut album, marks a notable evolution in their collective voice. Anderson’s voice finds a mark between Sandy Denny’s ethereal plea and Crystal Gayle’s country swoon. English trad-folk sounds are some of the band’s obvious touchstones, putting them in a category similar to contemporaries like Fleet Foxes and Stornoway.

Summer on the Hudson Picture Show: Beasts of the Southern Wild
Pack a picnic, bring a friend and settle in for a night of premier movies on the pier.

Pack a picnic, bring a friend and settle in for a night of premier movies on the pier. In this film, six-year-old Hushpuppy must learn the ways of courage and love when faced with both her hot-tempered father’s fading health and melting ice-caps that flood her ramshackle bayou community and unleash ancient aurochs.

The film will begin when it is dark enough to see the image on the screen which is dependent on the sunset, generally around 8:30pm. Seating will open at 6:30, and is first come first serve and people can reserve chairs for their friends once onsite. We put out chairs (about 250 of them) and they normally fill by 7:30 and ground seating is available in front and behind the chair section. Front ground seating is for blankets/butts on ground (the pier is hard made of pavers) & picnics are welcome if trash is disposed of properly. Dogs are welcome on leash and off chairs. People may bring their own chairs and place them behind our chairs on the dark pavers, if they choose to bring them. There is no seating or standing in the Southern aisle of the pier. @summeronhudson for weather updates

Summer on the Hudson Children’s Performance Series presents Moona Luna
Enjoy a performance by bilingual kindie group Moona Luna. This event is suitable for kids up to age 7.

Summer on the Hudson’s Children’s Performance Series runs on Thursdays from July 2 to July 30.

This event includes music, storytelling, and theater for young audiences up to age 7. Wear sunscreen! Stroller parking in designated area is mandatory.

Moona Luna is the kindie group that the New York Daily News says is providing “the missing soundtrack for bilingual/bicultural kids.” After making a splash on the family music scene with their accordion-driven, Latin-inspired debut album, Piñata Party (2011), Moona Luna delivered something fresh in its sophomore album, Vamos, Let’s Go! (2013). Songwriter and bandleader, Sandra Velasquez, found inspiration in American pop hits of the 50’s and 60’s, and staying true to her bilingual mission, crafted Spanish and English lyrics for each song. Having bilingual lyrics is just the icing on the cake because the tunes are so finger-snapping good and cater to extremely wide audiences.
