On January 16, 1936 the deaths of two famous men were printed on the front page of the Peekskill Evening Star. The two men shared the name Hamilton Fish. One was a notorious killer Hamilton “Albert” Fish and the other, Hamilton Fish II, a beloved statesman. This coincidence was discovered by artist Rachel Mason who was inspired to create an opera and feature film called The Lives of Hamilton Fish.
Scenes in the film were shot at historic sites in New York State and amazingly, The Hamilton Fish Recreation Center was completed in 1936, the same year that the two men died. To coincide with the film’s New York City debut which will happen in March 2015, The Hamilton Fish Recreation Center will present a special exhibition of Mason’s storyboard sketches, props, paintings and research.
In addition to the exhibition, the center will host a screening on Saturday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m.
