Join us as we partner with the Billion Oysters Project to monitor oyster reefs and restore oyster beds at Bush Terminal Piers Park.
Join the NYC Parks Stewardship Team for a very special edition of our monthly Sunset Park Green Neighborhood events!
In August, we will be partnering with the Billion Oysters Project to monitor oyster reefs and restore oyster beds at Bush Terminal Piers Park. Learn how these native bivalves improve water quality and how the Billion Oysters Project is working to restore this vital piece of NYC’s coastal ecosystems.
Boots, gloves, and training will be provided.
Please note: Space for this event is extremely limited so volunteers should register ASAP. Volunteers should come dressed for the weather in closed-toed shoes and clothes they can get dirty. All volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers will help to remove invasive vines and exotic vegetation like porcelain berry, mugwort, and bittersweet, to help ensure a healthy coastal canopy.
Stop by and visit the Stewardship Team at Bush Terminal Park! Volunteers will help to remove invasive vines and exotic vegetation like porcelain berry, mugwort, and bittersweet, to help ensure a healthy coastal canopy. Depending on the tides of the day, volunteers may also assist in removing debris from the wetlands.
Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty.

Come celebrate the formal opening of Sunset Park’s new recreation area, Bush Terminal Piers Park.
A recreational destination in the industrial section of Sunset Park, Bush Terminal Piers Park is a lovely waterfront park with spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. This site, once a port complex was cleaned up and opened as a public park in early November. Visitors to the park can enter at 43rd Street and 1st Avenue, and walk along the waterfront esplanade and past the tidal ponds and restored wetlands. Visitors will find two multi-purpose soccer and baseball fields as well as an open lawn area featuring impressive views.

Our Urban Park Rangers will guide you to the best wildlife viewing spots in the urban jungle. We offer birding programs throughout the year and our Exploration series focuses on unique wildlife viewing opportunities during particular seasons.
To enhance your experience, we encourage you to bring binoculars and field guides, or ask a park ranger to borrow a pair.

Volunteers are reminded to dress appropriately in long pants, closed-toed shoes, and clothes that can get dirty. Volunteers are asked to bring their own water bottles. All volunteers younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by a chaperone.
